Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty together again.
What is recovery from betrayal trauma?
The beginning of recovery from betrayal trauma
is to understand what it means to be betrayed. Once you come to terms that you have been traumatized by your husband’s infildelity and affairs then you can begin to see need to seek recovery.
As you begin your journey of recovery, you will begin to take steps to heal your own broken heart, find yourself, and learn how to rely on your own strengths and resiliency. I know you don’t look at this as a blessing right now. I didn’t either, sometimes I still don’t. But in my journey, I have been able to identify my own broken pieces and work to make them stronger. The stronger I get the less I am relying on others to make me whole. I now know I can be whole on my own and that is a wonderful feeling!
I love the idea of the Japanese tradition that repairs a broken vessel with pur gold, called Kintsugi. Translated to “golden joinery,” Kintsugi (or Kintsukuroi, which means “golden repair”) is the centuries-old Japanese art of fixing broken pottery with a special lacquer dusted with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. Beautiful seams of gold glint in the cracks of ceramic ware, giving a unique appearance to the piece.
This repair method celebrates each artifact’s unique history by emphasizing its fractures and breaks instead of hiding or disguising them. Kintsugi often makes the repaired piece even more beautiful than the original, revitalizing it with new life.
I have been broken, there is no way around that. But I hope to find all the broken pieces and put them back together with pure gold. I will never be the same again, that is for certain. But I can be transformed into something more beautiful. Being broken is not the end, it is a new beginning.
